First Photos

I'm itching to get out with my new camera and take pictures of something but I've been busy and haven't had a chance yet. Finally this afternoon I decided to just take Clarissa in the backyard and play around with it for a few minutes.

So far I am loving the camera! I don't think you can necessarily tell that much difference in photo quality when they're small on my blog, but I can tell a big difference in how easy I'm getting the photos and I can tell a difference in photo quality when I look at them straight out of the camera in Photoshop. Plus the shutter on my other camera has been failing for a while and I've been having focus issues, so being able to just snap away again without having to fight my camera for every shot feels absolutely luxurious!

So here are two cute photos of my sweet Clarissa. I love that kid. She's been a good sport with all the photos lately!

I used my nifty fifty (50mm)! It's Canons cheapest lens and my very favorite! I have a few more expensive lenses but I always seem to go back to that one. It takes really sharp portraits.

Wow! That's awesome! I was considering saving and getting a 5D Mark III but this camera is really tempting me. I sold my nifty 50 & upgraded to the 50mm f/1.4.

I currently have a Rebel XSi and the biggest issue I have with my 50mm lens on this camera is taking pics of many people and not getting all faces in focus.

Has that been an issue with the 70D?

Thanks for answering my questions!! It's always good to get opinions from real users!

I rarely take photos of large groups and haven't had a chance to take any with my 70D yet, so I'm not sure how it would do. The 70D does have a lot of focus points though, a lot more than my previous Canon cameras, so I'm pretty confident that you'd be fine. It also depends on your aperture settings though, of course. The 50mm lens also might be harder for big groups because you'd have to stand so far back to get everyone in. 50mm might not be wide enough for a big group. I don't do a whole lot of group portraits though, so I'm probably the wrong person to be giving advice on that! :)

I do love my new camera though. It does things I never dreamed a DSLR could do. So far I'm ridiculously in love with it!!
